Arabic Translation
opnsense-arabic · Language
A complete Arabic translation of the OPNsense web interface: 15,763 strings, the pages of the os-xgs-npu family's plugins among them.

It covers the core GUI of OPNsense 26.7, the plugins that ship with it, and their menus, forms, help texts, validation messages and dashboard widgets. The translation template lags behind the released GUI, so the strings were also taken from the running 26.7 interface.
Since 2026-10-22 the Arabic of the pages of the os-xgs-npu family's plugins is in the same catalogue: 1,254 strings from os-xgs-npu, os-fanctl, os-linkhealth, os-frontpanel and os-netreport. The repository's main branch also carries, since 2026-10-25 and not yet in a release, the pages of the five new plugins: Hardware Watchdog, Kernel Follower, Block Lists, Port Guard and Fallback Crypto. A string added to one of those pages needs its Arabic here first.
Terminology follows the Arabic interfaces of Microsoft, Arabic Wikipedia and ESET where they agree. The layout stays left to right; opnsense-rtl mirrors it.
Features
-
15,763 strings
The core GUI of OPNsense 26.7 and the plugins that ship with it - more than the 13,010 strings in the current OPNsense.pot.
-
XGS plugins in one catalogue
A string two plugins had translated differently was read where it is used and given one Arabic word here.
-
Arabic in the language list
The installer adds Arabic to the list under System: Settings: General: Language, keeping a copy of the original system.inc.
-
Kept across updates
A pkg trigger puts Arabic back the moment an update rewrites system.inc, and a boot hook does the same at every boot and puts the catalogue back if anything removed it.
-
Glossary
GLOSSARY.md, in Arabic, lists each terminology decision and its source.
Install and update
On a Sophos XGS appliance it comes with the image from xgs-image-builder: Arabic is in the language list, and the GUI stays English until Arabic is chosen. Its new releases are installed by hand from the Plugins tab of XGS: Updates; nothing is updated on its own. Anywhere else, run install.sh as root from a copy of the repository, then choose العربية (Arabic) under System: Settings: General: Language. /usr/local/share/opnsense-arabic/uninstall.sh removes all of it.
Limits, and what is not tested yet
- Arabic is not yet in OPNsense itself: the installer adds it to the language list. The aim is to bring the translation into OPNsense, where translations are kept on POEditor.
